A 40-year service milestone for Sue Otley

On the 12th of July 1982, Sue Otley joined Centurion as the very first employee. 40 years on she now celebrates a signficant service milestone with the company.

Centurion are a distributor of DIY and Trade Professionals products to the Independent DIY Retailers and builders’ merchants throughout the UK. Based in Doncaster their wide portfolio includes hardware, ironmongery, gardening, plumbing and electrical products.

Sue joined the company when it was first started back in 1982  and remembers working from the home barn when the company was called Don factors (which later changed to Centurion in 1984), which was the warehouse.  Her original role was the distribution of a few hand tools and even remembers picking up our current Managing Director; Paul Kantecki, from Primary school on a few occasions.

Paul Kantecki and David Geczi Directors of Centurion both commented, “40 years in any work service these days is unheard of, from the home barn of a few products to the now 80,000sqft warehouse with over 27,000 products and she still knows every product we sell!”. The continued, “Sue has been very loyal to Centurion and a tremendous asset to the business, her experience has been vital as we have grown the business and also to help new employees as they started with the company”.

Sue said I have been fortunate enough to see how the company has evolved and grown over those years. Centurion has provided me with many opportunities, I have done a number of different jobs over the years which I have really enjoyed and has given me the opportunity to build my skills across the business.  The best thing about Centurion is the people, over the years I have worked with different people who I have always found to be supportive and have become good friends. If you need anything you know you can talk to the management team, and they will always help you. Centurion is a great place to work, and I still enjoy it all today”.

The business expressed its gratitude to Sue with an employee gathering to celebrate her 40 years’ service and as well as many gifts, they also provided her with her own personal parking space.
