CENTURION AND THE RAINY DAY TRUST

Did you know that Centurion are supporting the Rainy Day Trust?

The UK’s only charity supporting the home improvement workforce and their families in times of need. Redundancy, accidents and illness are always a possibility.

If you or a member of your family is a past or present employee of the home improvement industry and you need financial assistance, no matter how small, then we’d be happy to help. Redundancy, accidents and illness are always a possibility.

The Rainy Day Trust is here to help, because you can’t always do it yourself…

Peter Stone, our Sales and Marketing Director, sits on their board as a trustee because he believes that the work that the charity does to support people from the industry is vital.  He’s also their Vice-President and will take over as President in a couple of years.  The Trust has been around since 1843 and now offers a huge range of different services to tackle many different problems.  It’s there to support you if you need it, or your colleagues.

To allow the Trust to work more closely with industry, it recently converted from unincorporated status to a Charitable Incorporate Organisation or CIO for short.

This means that it can operate more like a conventional business and work much more closely with its industry partners like Centurion.  Peter’s role in the changeover was to sit alongside the other trustees and weigh up if the work and cost justified the change, and then vote on whether or not it should happen. As a trustee he is part of a small group of industry people who set the direction of the Charity and define what it will do to help our colleagues.  He also gets very involved with the decisions on how the trust should market itself to the wider world and Chairs the Marketing and Communications Committee.

Last year the charity rang a banger rally to Monte Carlo to raise both awareness of the Trust and funds to support its work.  There’s going to be another rally this year in September and the Charity will be looking for entries.  But if driving 1,400 miles to Monte Carlo over 4 days, in fancy dress and tackling numerous challenges isn’t your thing, then you can take part in other events that the Charity has organised including the 5k and 10k Superhero Run in Regent’s Park London on 14th May and the London to Brighton Cycle Ride on 17th September. Or if you want to do your own thing and raise some cash for the charity, their website has a sponsorship pack that you can download.  There’s the Leeds half marathon or you could ‘cycle’ 100km in the gym; whatever you choose, the Charity will be glad to support you.

All in all, the Charity is growing fast and is there to offer help to those that need it.  We all know of someone who is off sick, working part-time or just has a whole pile of problems.  The free legal advice, debt advice, or counselling can go a long way to helping colleagues through difficult times.  The housing advice service is delivered through a partnership with Shelter and again is free to use.

If you want to take advantage of the Charity’s services, or know someone who could benefit from them, then call the Rainy Day Trust on 0203 192 0486 or visit their website at www.rainydaytrust.org.uk
