Vado Rally 2018

4th June 2018

With less than a week to go the four man Centurion team have completed their intensive fitness training programme and are in supreme physical shape for the Vado Rally that will take them through Northern Europe and into Scandinavia all in aid of the DIY, Builders Merchant and Housewares industry charity The Rainy Day Trust and the Teenage Cancer Trust. The “4 Bobs” (yes – we’ll all be dressed as Bob the Builder!) will undertake the 2500 mile round trip in the 1989 Volkswagen T25 Transporter with over 300,000km on the clock and which has been given a facelift for the occasion. The vehicle is running well and the team are confident of success … but are seeking comprehensive specialist European breakdown cover and enhanced life assurance.

Vado Rally Centurion 2018

As there were moments of minor tension (and some dissent it must be said) in relation to being dressed up as a children’s character Team Captain and Rainy Day Trust Chairman, Peter Stone, has skilfully diffused the situation by broadening the scope of their appearance so that at varying stages of the journey they will be seen as officers of the law protecting the good people of France and Belgium from villains, all four of The Beatles and a small but fearsome legion of Viking Warriors. One look at the team will tell you immediately how excited they are at this prospect.

Some of the team (and his whole family in fact) have privately expressed their concern that the Captain has not been seen in normal dress since mid April

In recent pre-rally trials the T25 reached speeds of up to 34 mph (on downhill sections) and only 2 of the 4 crew were sick as a result of the vibration.

5th March 2018

Doncaster based DIY distributor, Centurion Europe Ltd, have announced plans to support The Rainy Day Trust by entering the 2018 Vado Rally.

Centurion’s Sales & Marketing Director, Peter Stone, is a trustee of the DIY Industry Charity who celebrate their 175th year anniversary this year and will lead the team on the 2500 mile round trip through Belgium, Holland, Germany, Sweden and culminating in Copenhagen, Denmark on 10th June. Stone is keen to promote the team spirit and keep morale up throughout the journey and so the team of four will all be dressed as Bob the Builder.

A special vehicle has been identified to ensure a successful outcome in the form of a 1989 Volkswagen Transporter which has been well run in with over 300,000 kilometres on the clock.

Although it is not quite roadworthy at the moment with a few minor modifications Stone is confident that it will be more than up to the job: “Underneath the clag is a quality vehicle with a number of special features that make it the ideal mode of transport for a journey of this nature.

The modern aerodynamics will ensure a smooth drive as it glides along the continental motorways and the low profile tyres will provide the grip needed as it careers around bends at speeds expected to reach up to 23 MPH (on downhill stretches).

Assuming that we can get any of the wheels to drive then the Four Wheel Drive facility (the VW spent it’s early years in Sweden before being imported to the UK). will be useful to deal with the Swedish road conditions which can be treacherous in June – and the rear tow bar may well prove useful to other less well equipped vehicles that may need assistance”.

Stone has clearly done his research and the same meticulous planning has gone into assembling the crew capable of rising to the challenge.

Paul “Bob” Kantecki was selected for his calm and measured personality which Stone says will be crucial in the event that they encounter any poor driving from other road users. His other great asset is his extraordinary height: “On a clear day he can see almost four miles ahead which will give us a real edge” says Stone.

David “Bob” Geczi brings a wealth of of international knowledge and travel to the team and will be the lead navigator for the rally. Fortunately Belgium, Holland, Germany, Sweden and Denmark are among the handful of countries that he is not banned from.

Glynn “Bob” Fox will be Head of Communications for the team relaying regular updates on their progress throughout the trip via social media. He will also be in chrage of team security which will be provided by his dodgy band of Russian Rapper “acquaintances” who will guarantee a safe and smooth passage.

The Centurion team are all highly motivated and are now undergoing intensive training for the event.

Meanwhile the VW is about to undergo some extensive repairs and refurbishment with an investment allocated of just over £27.

On a more serious note Stone is desperate to raise as much money as possible for The Rainy Day Trust. “ We are helping more people than ever in our Industry and making a real difference to their lives and we are only able to do this as a result of the incredible generosity of our partners and sponsors. If you feel that you are able to help us with a donation then this would be most welcome and greatly appreciated”.

Centurion and Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT) are celebrating 10 years in partnership with Doncaster Rugby League, and to mark the occasion Centurion have created a special version of their logo to be displayed on this year’s playing shirts.

Eagle eyed Dons fans may have already witnessed shirt sponsor Centurion have opted to present their logo in luxurious gold print in support of this occasion.

Centurion and DCLT have been partners with the Dons for the duration of our time at the Keepmoat Stadium and this mutually beneficial agreement has assisted the club’s growth over the past 10 years.

Dons’ chief executive Carl Hall said: “Partnerships are a vital part of modern sport, and the mutual benefits for both parties have been tremendous.

“I believe we have built a strong relationship with these two fantastic organisations over the last 10 years and I am incredibly proud to have such supporting partners, who we class as part of the Dons family, without them we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

Paul Kantecki, managing director of Centurion, said: “We are based in Bentley near to where Tattersfield Stadium used to stand and the Dons have a special place in our hearts.

“We consider reaching this 10 year anniversary a great achievement and we have released a special commemorative gold version of our logo to mark this milestone. We are looking forward to working with the Dons again and we’re proud to show our continued support and wish them all the success in the future.”

Michael Hart, chief executive of DCLT, added: “We have enjoyed an extremely successful working relationship with Club Doncaster over the past 10 years.

“Both our organisations are passionate about increasing participation in sport and fitness across the borough and improving the health and wellbeing of the people of Doncaster.

“We look forward to continuing this partnership in the years to come as we build on the momentum we’ve already achieved.”

Did you know that Centurion are supporting the Rainy Day Trust?

28th February 2017

The UK’s only charity supporting the home improvement workforce and their families in times of need. Redundancy, accidents and illness are always a possibility.

If you or a member of your family is a past or present employee of the home improvement industry and you need financial assistance, no matter how small, then we’d be happy to help. Redundancy, accidents and illness are always a possibility.

The Rainy Day Trust is here to help, because you can’t always do it yourself…

Peter Stone, our Sales and Marketing Director, sits on their board as a trustee because he believes that the work that the charity does to support people from the industry is vital.  He’s also their Vice-President and will take over as President in a couple of years.  The Trust has been around since 1843 and now offers a huge range of different services to tackle many different problems.  It’s there to support you if you need it, or your colleagues.

To allow the Trust to work more closely with industry, it recently converted from unincorporated status to a Charitable Incorporate Organisation or CIO for short.

This means that it can operate more like a conventional business and work much more closely with its industry partners like Centurion.  Peter’s role in the changeover was to sit alongside the other trustees and weigh up if the work and cost justified the change, and then vote on whether or not it should happen. As a trustee he is part of a small group of industry people who set the direction of the Charity and define what it will do to help our colleagues.  He also gets very involved with the decisions on how the trust should market itself to the wider world and Chairs the Marketing and Communications Committee.

Last year the charity rang a banger rally to Monte Carlo to raise both awareness of the Trust and funds to support its work.  There’s going to be another rally this year in September and the Charity will be looking for entries.  But if driving 1,400 miles to Monte Carlo over 4 days, in fancy dress and tackling numerous challenges isn’t your thing, then you can take part in other events that the Charity has organised including the 5k and 10k Superhero Run in Regent’s Park London on 14th May and the London to Brighton Cycle Ride on 17th September. Or if you want to do your own thing and raise some cash for the charity, their website has a sponsorship pack that you can download.  There’s the Leeds half marathon or you could ‘cycle’ 100km in the gym; whatever you choose, the Charity will be glad to support you.

All in all, the Charity is growing fast and is there to offer help to those that need it.  We all know of someone who is off sick, working part-time or just has a whole pile of problems.  The free legal advice, debt advice, or counselling can go a long way to helping colleagues through difficult times.  The housing advice service is delivered through a partnership with Shelter and again is free to use.

If you want to take advantage of the Charity’s services, or know someone who could benefit from them, then call the Rainy Day Trust on 0203 192 0486 or visit their website at

Centurion Proud Sponsors as Silver Fox battles to victory

28th November 2016

Centurion staff member Daniel McKane (aka Silver Fox) claimed a huge victory in charity boxing match after achieving a first round knock-out against his opponent The Tank.

Daniel, who is Head of Field Sales for and sponsored by Centurion started the fight with a 4kg weight disadvantage and being 19 years older than his opponent was looking to be the underdog but this could not have been further from the truth.

Previously Daniel was heavily in to martial arts – in his younger days holding a black belt in Tai Jutsu, but over time this fitness had faded (due to not training for over 10 years!). Knowing how he struggled to get back in to it Daniel knew this fight was to be a huge challenge in more ways than one!

‘I have struggled over the years to get fit, everything I have tried to do I found boring, and I could never find the right fitness regime for me. I have always preferred contact sports so knew this would be a great challenge, I knew I would have to put in the hours and the dedication as I was totally committed to succeeding for such a good cause.’

The night of White Collar Boxing matches proved a huge hit with the venue of the Royal Armouries Leeds being completely packed out. Daniel was understandably nervous ahead of the fight but quietly confident in his own abilities. As the fight started it became clear that the Centurion Silver Fox was not actually the underdog so many had thought he was. Fast on his feet and swinging massive punches it wasn’t long before The Tank began to falter and within less than 2 minutes of the first round Daniel won with a Technical Knock Out!

The event was held to raise money for Cancer Research UK and at the time of going to print over £25,000 had been made and the total is still climbing. Both Centurion and the Silver Fox are both great charity supporters with the cause being close to the hearts of many and neither could be more proud of his achievements.

As a company Centurion Europe is dedicated to supporting staff both in and out of the office and were keen to help Daniel out in his quest to raise money and change his life for the better in terms of health and fitness levels. Staff are very keen to support each other with many sponsoring Daniel and donating to this great cause.

When asked his views Paul Kantecki Managing Director of Centurion told us:
‘As a company we aim to support and encourage all our staff members both in their professional and personal lives. We are very proud of Daniel and his achievements and know his success will inspire many of our team to work hard for causes close to their own hearts’
